Bryanna B. is tough. Once, during a soccer match early in her high school career, she suffered a toe fracture. Even outside of a running-intensive sport like soccer, this is an incredibly painful injury. Most would call it a day and ask for an ice pack. Instead, Bryanna asked for athletic tape and the chance to return to the game. And she did.
Beginning her freshman year at Morehead, Bryanna had something to prove. She wanted to make something of herself and make her mom proud. As her journey progressed, she learned that seeking others’ approval is a waste of time; her focus shifted to helping people and working hard. Bryanna wants her life to reshape popular narratives: “I want to be proof that it’s not just preppy girls [who] get on homecoming court.” She also wants future seniors at Morehead to understand that money shouldn’t preclude college attendance.
Bryanna most loves Morehead’s nurturing staff. It’s obvious to her that teachers genuinely care about students. “They’re not just there to get a check.” Her favorite teachers include Mrs. King, Coach Soyars, Ms. Wenger and Ms. Leonard.
As a student, Bryanna was involved in a variety of clubs and sports, including: soccer, tennis, cheer leading, band, swimming, theater, and student council. She also held three different jobs during high school. Pursuing her passion for helping people, Bryanna will attend Rockingham Community College to study nursing. Her eventual goal is to become a Physician’s Assistant or a Nurse Anesthetist.
